A nutritious and delicious strawberry smoothie that is fresh from the strawberry patch!
Spring is a very wonderful season, fresh strawberries, pretty blooms, beautiful peonies! Don’t you all just love a lovely spring season after a cold and gray winter?
We have a strawberry patch in our backyard, it is an amazing feeling knowing that my husband’s hard work with the berry garden paid off! Although we have a strawberry patch farm only 6 minutes away, my husband loved the idea of creating our own strawberry patch for my daughter.
Last year we ordered some strawberry plants online, they came with bare roots so they had to be planted right away. The first year, most people recommend not letting the strawberry plants bloom in order for them to get well rooted in the soil. We waited all year for the strawberries to finally produce some fruit for us, and the waiting paid off. The photo below shows our strawberry patch in the front half and our developing vegetable garden in the back half. We bought a few bird statues a few years ago for our apple trees to keep small birds away, and a small hawk watches over our strawberries.
My daughter loves to pick the strawberries and eat them straight off the vine. She is getting good at learning to pick only red strawberries, not green ones.
This past Saturday was a rainy day, we had showers on and off the whole day. This picture was taken 10 minutes after a big downpour, and 5 minutes after we had finished picking a big bowl of strawberries another downpour began. Perfect timing, plus the rainy weather helped make the strawberry plants look luscious and shiny, if only our hair would react the same way!
We usually eat fresh strawberries on their own, but since we had so many berries this year, about one full bowl every two days, I had to use them up fast. Fresh strawberries picked from a strawberry patch do not last as long as store bought strawberries, but their flavor cannot compare to store bought varieties. Of course, most home grown produce tastes much better than the mass-produced kind.
It is very common in my family to eat fresh strawberries mashed with some sugar, and a dollop of sour cream. It tastes even better with a slice of fresh bread. Some of you might know what I am talking about but most people do not eat their strawberries as a fresh “sauce” with bread.
That rainy Saturday afternoon, I needed a way to use up some fresh strawberries, so I made a delicious strawberry smoothie with Greek yogurt. This smoothie is very satisfying, it has Greek yogurt which contains tons of protein to keep you feeling full. My daughter loved the drink, especially since it was in a cute glass with a pretty straw. I had to chase her across the yard in order to finish taking some photos of the smoothie, hah!

Your berry patch is wonderful! We have a few strawberry plants in our raised beds but not nearly what you have. Now I’m thinking we should have planted more! Your adorable daughter must be in her glory. I bet she loved that gorgeous pink smoothie!
Thanks Allie! It takes a lot of tending to keep up with the weeds, but the look on my daughter’s face is priceless!
Yum… My favorite smoothie. I eat mashed strawberries with sugar and sour cream. I remember it from my childhood. Lovely strawberry patch!
Thanks Ilona! π
You have a wonderful strawberry patch Katy! Your daughter is adorable! And this strawberry smoothie looks amazing! Love the color.
Thank you Mira! π
This smoothie is absolutely gorgeous! I love the pretty color and flavor. I love making smoothies, especially in the summer, so I will have to try this out!
Thanks Gayle!
Katy – It’s amazing how many strawberries you have. I can’t wait to go and pick some from a local farm. Thank you for sharing this recipe. It looks like a refreshing and healthy drink for a summer day.
Thanks Erin, we love being able to go outside and pick fresh strawberries this season!
I made a similar smoothie earlier this week. Instead of strawberries I used raspberries. 1 cup frozen raspberries, 1/2 cup vanilla greek yogurt, 1 cup almond milk unsweetened. I used fresh raspberries but the yogurt and milk were cold, so it was good. I added ice little later but it watered it down little too much.
That sounds really good, Diana! I love simple refreshing drinks and yours makes me thirsty for one!
This looks so yummy! I absolutely love strawberries!
